This dogtrot plan has a covered front porch and a screened in porch for grilling out and enjoying the views of your lot. You can choose to build the plan in stages or build both additions at once. Characteristics of a dogtrot floor plan are a large, open breezeway that runs through the middle of a house, with two separate living areas on either side but still under one roof. There is no breezeway between the two areas but a kitchen and a small dining area. This was also the area that the dog trotted through if they wanted to get to the other side instead of going around the house. Generally, they were just one story with a chimney on each end of the house on the far side. This curiously named house style originated out of necessity—but now is considered a modern amenity.
